Yellow

May 8th, 2010. Walking the kids on a day of unsettled weather, we pass a huge field of blooming dandelions. The cheapest of all flowers, but what the heck: spring is there! And yellow is a great colour! (Near the woods of Machtolsheim, Swabian Alb, Southern Germany.)

Blue Snow

March 8th, 2010, Altental, between Blaubeuren and Herrlingen. On my way to work on a fricking cold ( -18° C / 0° F) morning. Beautiful sun, though. The light makes the fresh snow shimmer in blue.

I just couldn't resist, stopped the car and in my fine business leather shoes (aaaarghh!) I took a stroll in the deep snow near the Blau-River.The cold raises steam - not only out of my mouth and nose, but also from the river. Winter sometimes is great!

Bonfire

February 21st, 2010. Once a year, during the last days of February, a huge pile of collected old cristmas trees of our small village is burned in a big public bonfire. This so called "Funkenfeuer" is supposed to clear out the winter; consistently it is accompanied by beer and BBQ... ;-)

Snow and Sun

January 30th, 2010. Our first winter here. We didn't see that much snow since we were kids!

Pictures were taken around Gerhausen near Blaubeuren, Swabian Alb, Southern Germany, on a clear blue sky winter day. We dedicate them especially to all our friends in Texas, California and on Crete, Greece! ;-)

I couldn't resist: more frozen fog

January 24th, 2010, near Hohenstadt, Swabian Alb, southern Germany.
While on the way from Ulm to Stuttgart I had to stop at a parking lot of the Autobahn 8 and take some more pictures of the frozen fog, just those minutes, the fog started to vanish and the sun came out. Incredible white light. Astonishing icicles, here, at the highest peak of the Swabian Mountains.
Funny:  Five of the eight drivers, that were resting at the small parking lot, grabbed their cameras as well at that moment...

Frozen Fog

2010, January 23rd: Frost and fog in combination with wind created bizarre icicles on twigs and branches

Pictures were taken at the valley "Eggental" near Blaubeuren-Seißen (701 meters above sea level), Swabian Alb, southern Germany.
